Worst Nightmare: James is walking through his family home in Philadelphia. The hose is draped in black, as if those inside are in mourning. Hauntingly sad music echoes through the house. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwDpCiKBRHQ&feature=related

In each room he sees moments from his past, but they are changed, become more tragic somehow. Soon James enters into the sitting room. His mother is playing the sad music on the piano and his father is laid out in a casket. When he approaches his mother he sees that his hands and face are skeletal and as the dream ends he hears the sound of a body getting out of the casket.

Background: James Clancy Forrestal the III, of the Philadephia Forrestalls, was born in 1850 to Winnifred Curtis-Forrestall and Captain James Clancy Forrestal II. As befits his families wealth and station he was given a proper Quaker education. James' schoolmasters often complained that the boy was arrogant, while young James simply insisted that he knew more than his teachers.

As a young man James sought work that challenged his intellect, rather than enter the shipping business, or follow his father into the military, James recieved a University education. with a degree in Law. Disdaining both lawyers and the Philadelphia Police department whom James viewed as lazy and corrupt, James became a consulting detective, in the style of the Edgar Allen Poe detective stories.

The next few years saw triumph and tragedy for James. While mourning the death of his father at Appomatox V James solved a series of grisly murders in the lower class tennaments of the city. He also uncovered a Confederate sabotuer at the Navy Yard, and exposed numerous cases of police corruption.

James success made him many enemies. He felt Philadelphia was too dangerous for him. He then noticed an ad in the Police Gazette. James answered the ad, sending a letter of inquiry, which must have impressed whomever read it. He was appointed Sheriff of the town of Silver Pine Colorado.

While he misses back East James takes his duty to Silver Pine very seriously. Boss Totschlagge seems to run the town, but hasn't tried to exert blatant control over James thus far. He wonders if the "Boss man" realizes what sort of man he's hired.
