Background
Whitman J Travis was born in Ohio and enter the bar there. He worked as a clerk at his uncle’s law office until passing the bar and joined the firm as a lawyer. For fifteen years Whitman practiced law in Ohio. Whitman’s career almost came to an end when he was arrested for shooting a man, the mayor of Youngstown, Ohio in a sorted lover’s triangle. Whitman spent only one night in prison. He managed to escape with the assistance of a few “companions” and found the mayor hiding in his manor. Whitman finished the job, killing the mayor and fled Ohio to Colorado.

In Colorado, Whitman ran for circuit court judge and won. He now travels all along the 5th Circuit, of which the town of Silver Pine is a part of, dispensing judgment. Whitman’s nickname, Short Drop Travis comes from his preferred method of sentencing. The short drop is a kind of hanging performed by placing the condemned prisoner on the back of a cart, horse, or other vehicle, with the noose around the neck. The object is then moved away, leaving the person dangling from the rope. The condemned prisoner dies of strangulation, which typically takes between ten and twenty minutes.
